Since its appearance in 2004, the EASS has finished its first topical module (Family) in 2006, is currently conducting the second module (Culture and Globalization) in 2008, and is planning to conduct the third module (Health) in 2010. The 2006 Family module dataset from the four societies, in particular, is currently in the process of harmonization and integration with a view to be archived and released to the scientific community by the end of 2008.
Each dataset must be processed and prepared to match the structure of the Standard Setup before the material is delivered to EASSDA for integration and archiving. The first step in creating the data is the production of a 'Standard Setup'. This includes the desired structure of the integrated file, the variable-names, variable-labels, codes, value-labels and the definition of the missing values. The starting point of the production of the 'Standard Setup' is the basic questionnaire of the respective EASS module and the set of standard background variables (SBVs) defined for the EASS.
